The Art of Wedding Colour Selection

Your colour palette sets the emotional tone for your entire celebration. It influences everything from florals to bridesmaids' dresses, stationery to table linens.

    Start With Your Venue

Your venue provides the foundation. Consider:

    • Stone castles: Pair beautifully with rich jewel tones or soft romantic hues
    • Barns: Embrace warm neutrals, sage greens, or rustic oranges
    • Modern spaces: Can handle bold, contemporary colour choices
    • Gardens: Complement with soft pastels or vibrant garden-inspired palettes

    Consider the Season

Spring: Soft pinks, lavender, mint green, buttercream yellow Summer: Coral, bright white, ocean blue, sunny yellow Autumn: Burgundy, burnt orange, forest green, gold Winter: Deep red, evergreen, silver, navy, ivory

    The 60-30-10 Rule

A balanced palette typically follows this formula:

    • 60% - Dominant colour (often a neutral)
    • 30% - Secondary colour (your main accent)
    • 10% - Pop colour (for small details)

    Photography Considerations

Some colours photograph better than others. Soft, muted tones are universally flattering, while very bright or very dark colours can be challenging in certain lighting.

    Colours That Never Date

If you're concerned about your wedding looking dated in photos years from now, these palettes stand the test of time:

    • Ivory and greenery
    • Soft blush and gold
    • Navy and white
    • Sage and cream

    Test Before Committing

Always view fabric swatches, paint samples, and florals in your actual venue lighting. Colours can look dramatically different depending on natural light conditions.
